About Us

Tail Lights Rescue Project is a Seattle-based, non-profit, dog rescue transport that rescues dogs from an overcrowded shelter

in northwest Louisiana and transports them to the PNW, where our rescue partners provide them with foster homes and care until they're adopted.

Our mission is to give dogs in need a chance at a life and a loving home. We also strive to help educate members of the public about animal welfare and contribute to positive change in the communities we work in.

We drive our shuttle bus down to Caddo Parish Animal Shelter in Shreveport, Louisiana multiple times a year. Once there, we spend several days at the shelter, meeting and vetting dogs. We make recommendations to our rescue partners based on which dogs we think would be good candidates for our transport and their rescue. After getting rescue approval for the dogs, we take them to the vet for a health exam and health certificate, and any immediate medical care they may need. After that, we start the 33+ hour drive back to Washington, which usually takes us around 4 days. The dogs get several food/potty/stretch breaks each day. When we arrive in Washington, we meet with our rescue partners for intake. The rescues we work with are foster-based, which means our dogs go from the crowded shelter into caring foster homes, after a couple of days on our bus. After going through a decompression period and receiving any additional care they may need, the dogs become available for adoption in their new home state.

We are rarely involved in the adoption process unless we are personally fostering any of the dogs.

We are a small team of 4 volunteers - Sara, Sofia, Darren & Ethan
